Announcement: Free Weekend Planning Tool
In addition too your weekly dose of free content from me in the form of an email newsletter, I built a free short quiz too help you plan a weekend that is truly your own.
While you won’t get the same detailed breakdown and hidden gems you’ll find in the newsletter, you will find a quick, easy to use, and free weekend planner for those just wanting the tl;dr of what’s what this weekend (and any weekend in the future!).
It’s called Your Tyler or https://yourtyler.com/ and eventually I want to build this into a hub for the What’s Up Tyler community, but for now, it is a very new and prone to breaking tool for anyone to enjoy and use!
Your Weekend Blueprint
FRI: Lee Mathis & the Brutally Handsome @ Republic Icehouse - Took me a minute to verify that this event was actually happening, but it is real. From the snippet of Lee Mathis’ band I caught on CBS19, they play great country music. Hear them play here
SAT: Greggie and the Jets @ Bergfeld Park - Are you a fan of Elton John or free music, great food, and a fun time? If you said yes, I know what you’re wanting to do Saturday Night at 6pm. Liberty Hall Theater is hosting a free concert for Greggie and the Jets at Bergfeld Park! Be there or be square
SUN: Cody Norman @ Lago del Pino* - I’ll be honest, I didn’t know who this guy was while I was researching events. I went online and used this fancy new technology called “Google” and found out Cody Norman is a pretty decent guitar player. He’s playing at Lago del Pino on Sunday 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
*I also believe you have to make a reservation to show up, which is why I’m writing this 2nd paragraph to inform y’all of that. They should still have reservations available for Sunday if you’re reading this before Saturday evening.
As always if you know of something cool in the works in the coming weeks and want me to cover it, let me know!
Tyler Tastes
Rick’s On The Square - I’ve talked at least once or twice about Rick’s events, but havent actually bothered to mention anything about the restaurant itself. Rick’s is a slightly more upscale southern variety restaurant; serving up seafood, steak, burgers, and a big taco. Learn more here
Nerd Out
Geek World Weekly Events (Starting at 9/1) - If you’ve wanted to get into Warhammer 40k, or are just a fan of the universe, I’d reccomend dropping by tonight at 6pm (9/4)! Otherwise, heres a few more events going on at Geek World over the weekend if you’re into board games. Learn more here
Local Spotlight
The Rehearsal Room Tyler - If you’re an aspiring or afluent musician, or want to be more involved in the live music scene in Tyler, look no further than the rehearsal room! They also have a very lovely dog named Jackie as their mascot, that alone should be reason enough to check them out. Learn more here
We built the rehearsal room tyler because great music doesn’t happen in isolation. It takes people, places, and purpose.
Impacting Tyler
City Cleanup - Robert from the City of Tyler made a post on Instagram (yes they have one, I also just found out) that they are looking for volunteers to help people who need their yards cleaned (grass, junk removal, etc).
You can call (903) 531-1312 or click the image below to view their post for more information!
On The Horizon
East Texas State Fair - If you’re into scenic walking, carnival rides, great food from a variety of caterers, and who knows what else, you’ll want to get your tickets for the East Texas State Fair coming in just a few weeks! (September 19 - 28)
I’ll be covering the state fair more over the next few weeks as we inch closer to the main event, but for now you can always: Learn more here
