What’s Up Tyler

I am writing this week’s newsletter edition after doing some socializing and networking as they say in the business world. I took a trip too Stanley’s Famous Pit BBQ to hear about this texas government org that is partnering with Tyler (or rather, has a branch in Tyler, and works with local artists/venues/etc) called Music Friendly Tyler. Needless too say, if you love music, or even like music, you’ll want to be in the know for what they’ve got in store.

I am also working on something that would give you a custom weekend itinerary every weekend, for free, based on what you like. All that and more in this edition of What’s Up Tyler! Read on

Your Weekend Blueprint

  • FRI: Reverend Horton Heat @ Stanley's Famous Pit BBQ - Speaking of live music and Stanley’s BBQ, the first event this weekend that caught my eye was “the godfather of modern rockabilly”. I’ve never heard rockabilly music, and now I desperately want to know more and listen too this trio. Show starts at 7:15, but you should probably arrive a bit earlier if you want (and trust me you will want some) of Stanley’s Famous BBQ! Learn More

  • SAT: Saul Trujillio @ Rose City Comedy - I’ll be honest, when I read Saul as this comedian from CA’s first name, my mind jumped too Saul Goodman. ANYWAY breaking bad aside Saul Trujllio, but after I watched his stand up on The Late Show, I will never make that mistake again. Truly a one of a kind mullet. Get Tickets Here

  • SUN: Finial Splash Firework Bash @ Lake Palestine Resort - A little out of the way of my neck of the woods, but not that long of a drive from Tyler, especially for this fireworks show! This would be a great “well I’m not doing anything else tonight” event as it runs from 4 to11pm. Look At The Pretty Lights Here

Did I miss something really cool? You should let me know!

Fun Fact: I had to google what “Finial” meant, as I thought it was a typo.

Tyler Tastes

Daniel Boone's Grill & Tavern - “is that davey crocket riding a bear, with a burger on a stick attached by a rope guiding the bear?” yes. Did I tell you this was a restaurant btw? Serving americana, this tavern certainly has a unique personality, and I for one am all for it. Learn more

Nerd Out

Game Crave - Your one stop shop for all things board games in Tyler, and probably would give you better return prices than Gamestop (they dont sell video games though, be warned).

(hey this was their profile picture on facebook, dont shoot the messenger)

POP QUIZ: Why Am I Stealing This Segment?

Answer: New Tool In The Works - Gifs are hard to do, but if you see the colorful moving picture below, then my plan worked. For everyone else, heres the details; I am working on a tyler itineray builder that asks you a few simple questions about what you like doing, how busy you are, your budget, among other things, and custom builds you an itinerary for the upcoming weekend!

Though it’s not ready yet, I would love to know if you’d actually use a tool like this, and if so what you would love to see out of it! Reply too this very email with any ideas, comments, concerns, or eldrich knowledge you wish to bestow upon my mortal vessel.

If the image is solid black, give it a few seconds, gifs are hard.

Impacting Tyler

PATH - Disclosure: I volunteer with this organization every week in their food pantry. Also disclosure: I don’t think I legally needed to say that. Final disclosure: I don’t know when you’re supposed to disclose things.

Disclosures aside, PATH or People Attempting To Help, is an anti-homelessness non-profit that is in desperate need of volunteers of any and all ages to help not just in the food pantry, but the actual clerks that people need to access the resources of PATH are vital volunteers that are the front facing people helpers of our community. Help if you can here

On The Horizon

Tyler Songwriters Festival 9/20/25 - Remember the start of this email when I said I did networking as the business people call it, I also learned about Music Friendly Tyler’s largest endevour I’ve seen. A limited seating songwriters workshop + concert, all in one!

If you have any interest in attending the event you should reserve your tickets to either attend the show, or the workshop (yes there are seperate entry fees for them) here.

There are only 30 maximum seats at the workshop, and from what I recall, less than half remain at the time of writing. 100 maximum seats for the show, but there are slightly more than half of those seats remaining. I would still reserve early if you want to be more involved in the musical arts of tyler that isn’t on some dance floor.
